Lawless (2012)

"It's all right. Jack, It is not the violence that sets men apart. It is the distance that he is prepared to go. Jack, look at me. We are survivors. We control the fear. But without the fear, we are all as good as dead."

Lawless is a film that you are either going to relish about, or going to completely shut out. I say this because, the movie is not fast paced, nor does it have a lot of action, and in today's society that is what most people want when they see films on the big screen. If you like action packed movies, this is not down your ally, and should probably check out Expendables 2 or Resident Evil: Retribution or any other for that matter.

Lawless is a gangster movie based on Matt Bondurant's 2008 novel "The Wettest County in the World" which is based on a true story. It is one of those movies that, through seeming serendipity, has a cast that defines its moment. There have been others - "The Breakfast Club," "The Godfather" and "Silverado," to name one irrelevant and two relevant examples. But Lawless really lucked out. I enjoyed a lot out of this movie. With amazing acting, and great character development, Lawless ends up being worth the full price admission. There are amazing and fun characters, there is an interesting story, great acting, tension, etc. At the end, people who liked The Godfather or Clint Eastwood's western movies, are going to have thumbs up for this one too.
