The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012)

"There's something you need to know about me.
I came from the garden. Please don't ask about my leaves."

I really enjoyed this movie. A great family film, I was surprised by its depth. This film and its concept may appear odd from the trailers and ads, but let me assure you, if you watch this movie for yourself, it's very touching and heartwarming. Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Gardner are simply wonderful as the two parents who make their dream of having a child come true. On the surface, Timothy Green might appear to be a feel good film about parent-child relationships and how everyone has value. If one digs a little, however, he may find more tenaciously rooted messages. Watching this film really helped me look at life in a whole different aspect and how important family truly is.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

"I love you but you have no idea what you are talking about."

Very cute movie. Definitely different! Acting is great and the story is quite funny. Absolutely fantastic in every aspect of film making! Its about two kids from completely different families and in different situations, who find a connection in their shared sense of loss, either from parents who were deceased or parents who were alive, yet never present. The struggles to survive their individual childhoods are soothed by each other. In one another they find the support to move through their pain, progress into adult situations and give each other comfort they couldn't receive from adults.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

"'How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each prayer accepted, and each wish resigned"

Would you erase the memory of a past relationship if you had your heart's broken? Based on an absurd premise but grounded in real emotion, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is about a man who wishes to erase his ex-girlfriend from his memory after he finds out she erased him first. Life isn't always that easy, as Joel discovers: as he's erasing Clementine from his memory, he's also also erasing some of the best part of his life. Joel starts to fight the memory erasing in a desperate effort to protect what he has discovered he loves most about life ... Clementine. A beautifully structured film, which has the story going both backwards and forwards, that always reminds us how precious our memories truly are.

Two Weeks Notice (2002)

"Before you came into my life I could make all kinds of decisions, Now I'm addicted I have to know what you think"

If you are looking for a cute romantic movie, you can never go wrong with Hugh Grant, who is teamed in this one with Sandra Bullock as an environmental lawyer who becomes Grant's legal eagle and mommy. Though IMDB rating of 5.8 might suggest you something, the movie still is good and heart charming. A bit of more drama and comedy would have made this flick indispensable.
Anyways, coming back to movie, Bullock gets more than she bargains for and finally gives notice - hence, the title. In typical Grant style, he spends rest half of the movie trying to get her back. For sure, his all movies follow the same formula, but they are just fun to watch. The script is funny and decently paced and both are handed good comedy material to sing their teeth into.

Heroine (2012)

"If a heroine buys a car, it’s gifted to her by a businessman, if she goes to LA, she’s getting plastic surgery done and, God forbid, if she goes to Dubai, you people make a rate card for her."

What do you expect of a Madhur Bhandarkar film? Fashion, Page 3 or Chandni Bar... a list of fabulous movies to his credit. But not this time, Heroine is old wine in a new bottle. There is not even a single moment of novelty in the whole movie. Same fake smiles, dirty realities, the lonely depths of failures, unspoken truths, etc. If you have seen Fashion, you could be seen drawing similarities while watching the movie. The movie with this concept seems to be too long and too confusing at times.

Premium Rush (2012)

"I like to ride. Fixed gear. No brakes. Can't stop. Don't want to, either."

It's not a 10 star film but it is a fun ride with action that makes up for a few flaws in plot and the flow of storyline. The best issue in this film is almost constant action and wild biking through the New York streets. A movie that while thin and silly, moves with such joyous speed that you almost want to throw your arms in the air and scream. One of the elements that were new to the screen and highly workable were the sudden stop of action to follow the split-second decision making of a messenger/biker. Choices (usualy three) that have to be made in the moment. The bad guy in the film is nasty and very believable. Enjoy the earthy feel of the cameras that capture the life of a messenger on two wheels competing with trucks, cabs, and cops.

Teddy Bear (2012)

The writer Helmer's debut feature "Teddy Bear" is an offbeat character study about an enormous Danish bodybuilder whose painful shyness leads him to look for an arranged bride in Thailand. The low-key drama is well crafted and likable as far as it goes, but there's not enough narrative impetus or depth to maintain more than passing viewer interest. The result is moderately engaging but also a bit pokey and underwhelming, with little to say in the end beyond "incredible hulks have feelings, too." Nor do the competent design elements contribute much oomph. Original Danish title translates as "Ten Hours to Paradise."

Lawless (2012)

"It's all right. Jack, It is not the violence that sets men apart. It is the distance that he is prepared to go. Jack, look at me. We are survivors. We control the fear. But without the fear, we are all as good as dead."

Lawless is a film that you are either going to relish about, or going to completely shut out. I say this because, the movie is not fast paced, nor does it have a lot of action, and in today's society that is what most people want when they see films on the big screen. If you like action packed movies, this is not down your ally, and should probably check out Expendables 2 or Resident Evil: Retribution or any other for that matter.

Arbitrage (2012)

"World events all revolve around five things: M-O-N-E-Y."

It's instructive to note what a killer actor Richard Gere can be when a movie rises to his level. Arbitrage is such a movie, a sinfully entertaining look at the sins committed in the name of money. Richard Gere as Robert Miller is very convincing as a sophisticated , wealthy man who loves his work , loves his wife, daughter, son and of course his own girlfriend Julie. Arbitrage reminds of Disclosure, in that the intensity of it doesn't come from action but from the escalating drama, the talented actors and the plot. You don't know whether to hate Robert Miller or feel sorry for him, because even though he's doing bad things he doesn't have bad intentions. And Richard Gere pulls it off without a hitch, his first major role in years.

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

A cacophony of abstract action-horror mayhem, this fifth entry in the video-game-inspired franchise finds superheroine Alice (Milla Jovovich) massacring zombies per usual as she attempts to escape an underwater complex. Retribution really doesn't offer anything new, if Alice remembers anything at all she probably will have a feeling of deja-vu from the previous instalments but the movie barrels along from one gory, action set-piece to another without giving the audience too long to worry about how ridiculous it all is.

A Walk To Remember (2002)

"Love is just like a wind, you can't see it but you can only feel it"
"I am afraid of not being with you"'
"Find out who you are, and do it on purpose"
"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful"

Landon Carter, the most famous guy in the school, gets into some trouble, and as punishment, his principal makes him a tutor to a younger student, and be in the school's spring play. Jamie Sullivan is considered as outcast in school and is also in the school play. One day Landon realises he's on over his head and ends up asking Jamie for help. A love story about two North Carolina teens who are completely different from each other but made the most romantic move in the movie.

Lost in Translation (2003)

"The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you"

A fading american movie star with a sense of emptiness, a neglected newly wed meet up as strangers in Tokyo, Japan and form an unlikely bond. One of the best movies ever made about loneliness, "Lost in Translation" is about two completely different Americans who meet at a hotel in Tokyo and bond through their shared disappointments with life. It certainly is NOT a typical romantic comedy, most probably because the relationship between Bob and Charlotte is not so much about love as it is about truly understanding where the other is coming from.

Before Sunset (2004)

"You were, for me, that night - Everything I always dreamt of in life"

Amazingly effective in its simplicity. Two people meet on a train and spend a romantic night together in Vienna - talking, walking, philosophizing and falling in love. Ten years later they meet again by happenstance. That's the premise for Richard Linklater's Before Sunset, a lovely tone poem that stands as a bookend to 1994's Before Sunrise. It didn't seem likely or possible that Richard Linklater could strike gold twice but sequel is every bit as worthwhile as the original.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)

"You have bewitched me body and soul, and I love I love, I love you"
"The one person she cannot stand is the one man she may not be able to resist"
"Believe me. Men are either eaten up with arrogance or stupidity. If they are amiable, they are so easily led they have no minds of their own whatsoever"

Sparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennett meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice? There have been countless adaptations of Jane Austen's classic book. Once again the fantastic romantic world of Jane Austen again makes it's way to silver screen. this adaptation is a brilliant achievement that keeps you actively involved from the first scene to the very last scene, just about consuming you with aching romance - and it is sprinkled with humour and intelligence.

Letters to Juliet (2010)

"You need only courage to follow your heart. I don't know what a love like Juliet's feels like - love to leave loved ones for, love to cross oceans for but I'd like to believe if I ever were to feel it, that I will have the courage to seize it"

A wall in Verona, Italy, is known for Juliet's stone balcony. Lost souls leave letters in the wall of love gone wrong, and love missing in action, and lovers needing advice, and love stories lacking love. A group of Juliet's secretaries answer the letters. An American girl, Sophie, on a pre-honeymoon vacation in Italy finds an unanswered "letter to Juliet" from 50 years ago lying within the wall. She then decides that she must answer the letter and thus begins a quest to find the lost lovers referenced in the letter. Letters to Juliet, which takes its basic inspiration from a true story, is a gentle, charming story that features a winning lead performance from Amanda Seyfried.

The Lake House (2006)

"One man I can never meet. To him, I would like to give my whole heart"

A lonely doctor who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect. Living two years apart in the same house, they must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late. As they correspond back and forth, creating an intimate relationship through words, they discover they have a connection that bridges the two year gap. When two people "connect" the bond between them can be so pure and simple as to stir hearts in heaven. When they connect in all the right places at all the wrong times, heaven weeps for broken hearts.
